For the Holiday 2023 Collection, Oribe collaborated with multidisciplinary artist and designer Louis Barthélemy to bring to life our unique expression of heritage craftsmanship and vivid storytelling through seven limited-edition gift sets.
Eternal Rituals
In Eternal Rituals, via a sprawling three-part tapestry, Louis showcases the central role that haircare has played in our daily life since antiquity. The whimsical narrative visualizes thousands of years of haircare ritual, starting with a sublime deity, whose hair flows upwards like the life-giving Nile river. Under the watchful eye of the god Horus, the flowing locks are tended to and braided by mythical Egyptian gods and goddesses, surrounded by lush flora and fauna, all with playful nods to Oribe throughout.

Louis Barthélemy is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based between Marrakech, Cairo and Paris.
At the core of his practice is a deep commitment to the preservation and revival of traditional crafts. Drawing on the many relationships he has developed with artisans and craftspeople from his home in Marrakesh to his years in Cairo, Louis continuously seeks to celebrate, share and find common humanity by working with local artisans across a variety of mediums.

From Concept to Craft
Transforming Eternal Rituals into a handwoven tapestry in partnership with Kahhal Looms
To further celebrate the craft, Oribe has commissioned Louis to create a one-of-a-kind kilim, or a handwoven tapestry, of the artwork with a team of artisans at the Kahhal Looms located outside of Cairo. The process of creating the kilim is native to Egypt for the last two thousand years and takes about 9 months to complete, as the yarns are manually tied then dyed with more than 20 natural pigments. To finish the piece, the yarn is hand-woven by Anwar Al-Ashram, a talented weaver who lives and works in Fowa, a small city of the Kafr el Sheikh region in the Nile delta.
